Job summary

Westwood Recruitment partners with one of the UK’s largest construction, engineering, and infrastructure companies to recruit an experienced Senior Project Manager for a major HV substation project based in Chelmsford/Didcot. You will lead end-to-end delivery from concept to commissioning, requiring strong NEC4 knowledge, contractor oversight, and active risk and cost management.

The role demands a proven track record in HV environments, stakeholder leadership, and cross-functional collaboration

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or project management.
• Proven experience managing HV substation or transmission/distribution projects up to 400kV.
• Strong understanding of NEC4 contract mechanisms and commercial governance.
• Experience managing multiple subcontractors and designers across interfaces.
• Cost management and financial reporting capability.
• Experience in risk mitigation and opportunity realisation.
• Strong communicator with ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Commitment to health, safety, quality and environmental compliance.
• Experience working with transmission-connected clients.
• Heavy civil or mechanical and electrical engineering background.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end delivery of a two-stage HV substation project with safety, technical, and contractual compliance.
• Plan and manage project programme, milestones, interfaces, and deliverables.
• Administer NEC4 governance including early warnings, compensation events, change control, and communications.
• Maintain cost forecasting, tracking, budgeting, and financial reporting.
• Oversee HV construction activities and subcontractor performance and compliance.
• Coordinate with engineering, commissioning, and operations teams to ensure delivery quality.
• Lead risk identification, assessment, and mitigation throughout the lifecycle.
• Drive opportunities to improve programme, cost, or technical outcomes.
• Prepare progress reports, dashboards, and performance updates for stakeholders.
