Job Role: Lead/Principal Hardware & Firmware Engineer
Work pattern: Hybrid, 2-3 days working in our Warwick office
Salary: £65,000 - £75,000 per annum

Nicholas Associates has an exciting opportunity to work for an innovative & award winning client within the tech industry.

Overview:
We are looking for a talented and experienced Lead/Principal Hardware & Firmware Engineer to work on the hardware and embedded software for their exciting range of measurement products. You will be a part of our strong research and development team which includes electronics hardware, embedded software, cloud & backend software, and mobile app development. The work you do will be crucial to the success of our current and future products in the marketplace. You will have the opportunity to lead the hardware/firmware team and manage their work packages. Although this is a technical role at the outset, it could develop into a line management role for the right applicant.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Architect and design robust products from concepts and specifications in alignment with the requirements, bringing innovative solutions to complex problems.
2. Technically lead and mentor a small team, bringing your extensive experience to bear with hands-on development and support for your team.
3. Oversee PCB design and layout, ensuring best practice and high-quality results.
4. Define and specify test plans for hardware verification and production testing.
5. Identify and implement improvements to test and diagnostic processes.
6. Support environmental and EMC testing during qualification.
7. Perform and oversee circuit analysis including power, tolerance, and reliability.
8. Capture design requirements in collaboration with other teams.

Essential Skills & Experience:

1. A proven record of delivering digital electronics designs from architecture to production, preferably with a focus on battery powered, MCU-based applications.
2. Be technically fluent in hardware, firmware, and manufacturing engineering.
3. Oversight of PCB Design & layout.
4. A good understanding of embedded C for microcontrollers.
5. Familiarity with standard interface buses such as SPI, I2C, UART & USB.
6. Product development with regards to DFx (design for safety, testability, and manufacturability).
7. Knowledge of test & verification techniques in support of product lifecycle development.
8. Experience managing a small team and/or packages of work is highly desirable.
9. A Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering or equivalent knowledge or experience.
10. Strong communication skills, both written & verbal.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

1. Full product life cycle development & management.
2. Experience with environmental and EMC testing during qualification.
3. Production test development & operation.
4. Experience with battery powered Bluetooth or Wi-Fi devices.
5. Some experience of analogue electronics design would be advantageous.
6. Experience in a smaller company or start-up environment where the portfolio of responsibilities tends to be broader.
7. Technically fluent in firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing engineering.
8. Experience of the certification process (CE and FCC).
