Job summary

Southern Housing is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Supervisor to lead a dedicated team in delivering safe, high‑quality outdoor spaces for residents. The role is office and site based, with the office in Birmingham, and requires effective communication with residents and partners.

You will oversee day‑to‑day maintenance tasks, ensure compliance with health and safety standards, manage resources, and drive continuous improvement across the Estate Services team.

Qualifications

• Experience in a Ground Maintenance environment with a strong focus on health and safety practices, including risk assessments.
• Proven practical grounds maintenance tasks across grounds, gardens and communal spaces.
• Proactive mindset and problem‑solving skills to address operational challenges.
• Understanding of value for money and service charges, and resource efficiency.
• Ability to build positive relationships with residents and colleagues.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective liaison.
• Attention to detail for estate inspections and reporting on repairs or tenancy matters.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and carry out grounds maintenance activities such as grass cutting, planting, pruning, weeding and leaf clearance.
• Manage, support and develop the grounds maintenance team through supervision, meetings and mentorship.
• Monitor workloads to ensure work is completed within response times and quality standards.
• Ensure all work is delivered safely, following regulations and health and safety requirements.
• Manage tools, equipment, vehicles, materials and stock to support productivity and cost control.
• Complete digital work orders and costing records with accurate SOR codes.
• Communicate with residents professionally and inform them about planned works.
• Identify service failures and support investigations into complaints when required.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and promote values across the team.
