Job summary

London Metal Exchange (LME) is seeking a senior software engineer to join the new technology team supporting the SPM program. The role covers frontend, backend, data and infrastructure, working with business stakeholders to engineer scalable solutions and align with the strategic roadmap.

You will design, build and operate production services, deliver APIs, drive CI/CD, and contribute to platform modernisation while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with external vendors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline.
• Strong software engineering foundations with production-grade applications.
• Strong Java application engineering experience with modern enterprise frameworks.
• .NET engineering background preferred for modernization and interoperability.
• Experience in financial services or a regulated environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and improve modern application services with focus on quality, maintainability, and performance.
• Develop backend services and APIs supporting evolution of core business capabilities.
• Contribute to modern internal and customer-facing user experiences.
• Partner with product teams, operations, and stakeholders to translate requirements into robust engineering solutions.
• Apply testing, peer review, CI/CD, and high-quality documentation.
• Ensure services are observable, monitorable, and reliable in production.
• Align engineering delivery with enterprise standards and vendor collaboration.
• Drive continuous improvement of engineering practices and platform capabilities.
