Job summary

LaraBench is hiring a Lead Full Stack Engineer in Edinburgh. You will own the full-stack delivery across Laravel, InertiaJS, and NextJS, shaping architecture, and setting engineering standards. This hands-on leadership role reports to the CTO and guides a small, senior team in a regulated GovTech environment.

You will drive technical decisions, ensure accessibility, and work across a secure SDLC with government stakeholders while mentoring engineers and delivering high-quality software.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' commercial full stack development experience (backend and frontend).
• Technical leadership experience - architecture decisions, mentoring, setting standards.
• Proficient in PHP 8.3+ and Laravel 11+ (or Symfony) with InertiaJS or React.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, testing (Pest/PHPUnit), and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with government/regulatory SDLC, security reviews and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end technical delivery from architecture to production.
• Lead integration work with government services (OAuth2/OIDC, PKCE, payments, Companies House, DVLA).
• Set and maintain engineering standards across a strongly-typed Laravel codebase.
• Guide accessible React UI built on government design system.
• Lead serverless deployment and security reviews.
• Mentor engineers, review PRs, and act as escalation point for tech decisions.
