Job summary

Stirling Dynamics is seeking a Principal FPGA Design and Development Engineer to lead FPGA architecture and implementation for safety-critical aerospace systems. Based in Bristol with hybrid working, you will own end-to-end development from requirements to verification and DO-254 evidence, collaborating with systems, safety, software, and hardware teams.

Qualifications

• Significant FPGA design experience for complex digital systems.
• Strong VHDL design with requirements-based RTL development.
• Experience in high-integrity or safety-critical applications.
• Familiar with DO-254 processes and artefacts.
• Traceable design from system/hardware requirements to FPGA artefacts.
• Experience with configuration management and source control.

Responsibilities

• Lead or contribute to FPGA architectural definition.
• Develop requirement-based FPGA designs with traceability.
• Produce FPGA design documentation and review evidence.
• Support DO-254 planning and verification activities.
• Integrate FPGA designs within broader product architecture.
• Maintain FPGA development workflows and toolchains.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership.
• Contribute to DO-254 implementation and timing closure.
