Job summary

Thales in the United Kingdom is seeking a Principal Firmware (FPGA) Engineer to own FPGA-based design across defence and aerospace. You will develop high-performance firmware and work with systems, hardware and software teams to deliver integrated solutions.

You will apply VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog, use ModelSim/QuestaSim for verification, and contribute to firmware process improvements while delivering on time and budget. UK Security Clearance eligibility is required.

Qualifications

• Experience firmware for FPGA-based systems.
• Proficiency in VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog.
• Experience with simulation and verification tools.
• Strong digital design and hardware/software integration.
• Eligibility to obtain UK Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop firmware using HDL.
• Lead or contribute to firmware architecture decisions.
• Verify and validate firmware using simulation/testbenches.
• Collaborate with systems, hardware and software engineers to deliver integrated solutions.
• Support requirements definition, design reviews, and technical decisions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of firmware processes (automation, scripting).
• Use industry-standard FPGA/SOC development tools.
• Support integration activities at customer or test sites.
• Deliver work to agreed time, cost, and quality standards.
