Job summary

Advanced Resource Managers Ltd in Basildon is seeking a Lead Firmware Engineer for a 6-month contract. The role is paying up to £88 per hour Inside IR35, and will sit on-site in Basildon.

You will lead firmware activities, including requirements capture, FPGA design, documentation, testing, and integration with PCB and embedded software teams, while ensuring compliance with the firm’s firmware process.

Qualifications

• FPGA-focused role requiring HDL skills and FPGA lifecycles.
• Advanced verification techniques using VHDL/SystemVerilog/UVM.
• Experience specifying timing/area constraints for FPGA place-and-route.
• Must analyse system-level requirements to derive firmware needs.
• Familiarity with RTCA DO-254 or similar firmware processes is preferred.
• Experience with IEC 61508 safety considerations is advantageous.
• Debugging firmware and assisting verification/integration with hardware teams.
• Familiarity with Siemens EDA tools, HDL Designer, ModelSim/Questa is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

• Firmware requirements capture and management.
• FPGA design and analysis.
• Production of documentation for other engineers and evidence for design reviews.
• Development of FPGA test andFPGA integrationplans.
• Performsystem integrationwork with PCB designers and embedded software engineers.
• Support all firmware designs through the company firmware process - training will be given.
• Modification of existing firmware designs and test benches.
• Making technical decisions and mitigating technical risk forFirmware designactivities.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Using FPGA technologies especially from either Xilinx, Microsemi (Actel) or Lattice and their tools.
• Advancedverification techniquesusing eitherVHDLorSystem Verilog/ UVM.
• Specifying complex timing and area constraints for efficient FPGA place and route.
• Ability to analyse system-level requirements and derive detailed Firmware requirements.
• A methodical approach to the fullfirmware designlifecycle, working to a structured firmware process such as RTCA DO-254 or similar.
• Experience of working on safety-related firmware to IEC 61508 would be advantageous.
• Debugging firmware designs and supporting verification and integration at hardware and system level alongside Software and Hardware Engineers
• Familiarity with Siemens EDA, FPGA development tools, including HDL Designer and ModelSim / Questa, is an advantage.
