Job description

We are seeking an outstanding, enthusiastic and ambitious Lead English Teacher to drive forward teaching and learning in English and inspire a love of literature and language across the school. Beginning September 2025.

Duties as Lead English Teacher:

  • Provide strategic leadership for the English department, raising standards and securing excellent outcomes.

  • Model outstanding classroom practice and support colleagues in developing their teaching.

  • Plan, implement and monitor a dynamic, challenging and inclusive English curriculum.

  • Use data effectively to track progress, identify gaps, and plan interventions.

  • Lead and coordinate staff development in English teaching, including mentoring and CPD.

  • Champion reading and literacy across the school, building a strong reading culture.

Ideal Lead English Teacher:

  • A qualified teacher with QTS and a strong track record of teaching English successfully.

  • Proven experience of raising attainment and leading on curriculum development.

  • Excellent knowledge of English pedagogy, assessment and curriculum requirements as Lead English Teacher.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate and support staff and pupils.

  • A passion for English and a commitment to promoting high standards and a love of learning.

  • Experience of supporting whole-school literacy initiatives – desirable.
