Job summary

Leonardo UK Ltd in Edinburgh is seeking a Project Chief Engineer to lead the development of LDEW technology and the Beam Director product line. You will coordinate engineering work, define design standards, and guide project teams with expert technical advice.

You will ensure customer requirements are fully defined and met, maintain risk management, and oversee design reviews and certification evidence across the product lifecycle. Hybrid working options are available.

Qualifications

• Experience leading across all engineering lifecycle phases.
• Proven delivery performance across multiple engineering domains.
• Strong understanding of product development lifecycle and risk management.
• High customer focus and ability to translate needs into requirements.
• Experience chairing or providing SME assessments to Design Reviews.
• Familiarity with formal problem-solving techniques.
• Adaptability to changing requirements.
• A STEM degree or equivalent accreditation.

Responsibilities

• Define customer requirements and ensure they are met.
• Ensure designs are safe, producible, robust and fit environment.
• Serve as primary technical point-of-contact for customers and internal teams.
• Capture rationale and analyses for major design decisions.
• Maintain KPI tracking through the product lifecycle.
• Oversee design reviews and test strategy quality.
• Ensure certification evidence and regulatory/safety compliance.
• Resolve technical non-compliances and safety issues.
• Collaborate with Project Engineering Manager to resolve conflicts.
• Support road-mapping of product & technology and IP.
• Coach and mentor engineers.
