Job summary

A leading contract engineering role in Guildford is available for a Lead Engineer / Infrastructure Supervisor (Structured Cabling).

You will oversee a team delivering copper and fibre installations on a major infrastructure project, ensuring safety, quality and on-time delivery while staying hands-on when required. The position offers a 6–8 month contract starting October 2026 and requires eligible UK security clearance.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading installation teams on structured cabling projects.
• Strong knowledge of copper and fibre installation and testing.
• Ability to produce site reports and RAMS documentation.
• Experience working in regulated or secure environments; eligible for UK Security Clearance.

Lead Engineer/Infrastructure Supervisor (Structured Cabling) (225jc) – Guildford - £230 per day

We're recruiting on behalf of a specialist engineering organisation seeking an experienced Lead Engineer / Infrastructure Supervisor to oversee the delivery of a major structured cabling and network infrastructure project in the Guildford area.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced military communications and infrastructure specialist looking for a hands-on supervisory contract within a professional engineering environment.

If you've led installation teams, managed technical projects on operational sites, or supervised communications infrastructure, we'd like to hear from you.

The Role

You'll take responsibility for leading a team of engineers delivering structured cabling and network infrastructure installations while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety and customer service.

Although this is a supervisory position, you'll also be expected to remain technically involved where required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and supervise structured cabling installation teams.
• Oversee copper and fibre installation, testing and commissioning.
• Coordinate subcontractors and engineering resources.
• Act as the main point of contact between engineers, project management and the customer.
• Conduct toolbox talks, site inspections and quality audits.
• Ensure all work complies with Health & Safety legislation and project standards.
• Produce site documentation including RAMS and survey reports.
• Support fault finding, moves, adds and changes (MACs) and project completion activities.
• Ensure projects are delivered safely on time and to the required quality standards.

We're Looking for someone with:

• Strong background in structured cabling and physical infrastructure installation.
• Experience supervising engineering teams on live projects.
• Good knowledge of copper and fibre systems.
• Experience working within regulated or secure environments.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to produce technical documentation and site reports.
• Eligibility to obtain UK Security Clearance.

Ideal Military Background:

This role would particularly suit candidates leaving or who have served in:

• Royal Engineers (Communications)
• RAF CIS or Communications Specialists
• Royal Navy Communications & Information Systems
• Or infrastructure or communications engineering appointments
