Job summary

Cambridge Consultants is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the technical direction for human-centric intelligent systems in defence and security projects. You will architect solutions, mentor engineers, and engage with clients to win and deliver work.

We value a strong background in cognitive science, HCI, and Python, with a track record of independent technical leadership. Hybrid working is offered, with some in-office time required for project work.

Qualifications

Experience in applied cognitive science or human-centric tech, including defence or security projects.
End-to-end experimental design and data evaluation, with ethical review navigation.
Architecting technical approaches and acting as technical authority.
Strong undergrad in CS/Cognitive Science; PhD welcome but not required.
Programming in Python; familiarity with modelling tools.

Responsibilities

Lead technical design and architecture for complex projects.
Engage with clients, develop proposals, and support sales conversations.
Mentor engineers and run technical interviews.
Set department standards and review technical work.
Contribute to capability-building and demonstrators to keep us at the forefront of technology.
