Job summary

Cambridge Consultants is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the technical direction of defence and security projects, focusing on human-centric intelligent systems and advanced modelling. You will work with a multi-disciplinary team, mentor staff, and interact with clients to shape proposals and drive successful outcomes.

The role requires security clearance readiness and a proactive approach to securing new work while delivering high-impact engineering solutions.

Qualifications

Extensive experience in applied cognitive science, human-computer/robot interaction, human factors, or related human-centric technology fields, including defence or security projects.
Extensive experience conducting human subject research: end-to-end protocol design, empirical studies, data evaluation, insights syntheses, ethics processes.
Experience architecting the technical approach on complex projects and acting as the technical authority.
Strong undergraduate degree in a relevant technical or scientific subject; PhD welcome but not required.
Strong Python skills and experience with computational modelling tools.
Interest in working directly with clients and contributing to proposals and technical sales.

Responsibilities

Design and architect human-centric intelligent systems, defining architectures and technical frameworks.
Lead projects as technical owner, setting direction and ensuring client value.
Develop proposals and costed work programmes translating client problems into deliverables.
Mentor engineers and scientists and conduct technical interviews for growth.
Contribute to department processes, standards, and capability development.
Engage with clients to win new work and support project delivery.
