Job summary

Cambridge Consultants is seeking a Principal Engineer in AI & Algorithms within the defence and security-focused team in the United Kingdom. You will design, implement and test cutting-edge AI systems, lead complex projects, and shape technical strategies while collaborating with clients and internal teams.

You will be the technical authority on complex projects, mentor engineers, review work, and help win new engagements through strong proposal development and client interaction.

Qualifications

• 5+ years’ experience designing and delivering cutting edge AI solutions, including agentic AI systems.
• Experience assuring the quality of AI outputs and related technologies.
• Experience collaborating with subject matter experts to build systems with deep domain understanding.
• Strong undergraduate degree in AI/ML/CS/Math/Physics.
• Strong Python and software engineering judgement.

Responsibilities

• Design cutting-edge AI solutions for clients' problems, including agentic AI that can search, interpret, and plan to achieve goals.
• Act as technical lead and architect on large, complex projects, owning the technical solution.
• Set technical direction and review work across the department.
• Lead development of proposals and costed work programmes to win and deliver client work.
• Drive internal capability and demonstrators to maintain leadership in the field.
• Mentor engineers and conduct technical interviews to recruit and grow talent.
• Contribute to department processes and technical standards.
