Job description

At OSB Group, we're passionate about helping our customers, colleagues and communities prosper. Our specialist lending and savings brands are powered by modern, resilient technology - and our engineers play a vital role in shaping secure, customer-focused digital experiences in a regulated environment.

We're looking for a Lead Engineer to provide hands-on technical leadership across multiple Savings squads. You'll ensure consistency in architecture, code quality and security across our full-stack platforms, including backend services and Salesforce components.

The role reports into the Principal Engineer and will partner closely with Product Owners, Cloud Architects and Delivery Leads to ensure solutions are robust, scalable and ready for regulatory and customer-facing releases.

The role can be based from our Wolverhampton, Chatham or London office and will require occasional travel between all OSB Group locations.

What you will be doing:

The Lead Engineer - Backend will provide hands‑on engineering leadership across squads, ensuring the delivery of secure, scalable and high‑quality technology solutions. Acting as the technical authority across full‑stack and Salesforce platforms, the role will drive engineering excellence, solution integrity and consistent delivery standards across both change and run activities.

Working closely with Product Owners, Architects, Delivery Leads and engineering teams across the UK and India, the Lead Engineer will serve as the key technical bridge between locations, enabling effective collaboration within a distributed Agile environment.

The role will also play a critical part in mentoring and developing engineering talent, helping to establish long‑term technical capability and supporting the successful delivery of customer and regulatory commitments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide hands‑on technical leadership across multiple Savings squads, driving engineering excellence, solution quality, architectural consistency and secure software delivery across full‑stack and Salesforce platforms
  • Lead the design, development and optimisation of scalable, resilient and high‑performing applications, ensuring solutions meet business, customer and regulatory requirements
  • Establish and promote engineering best practices, including code quality, Test‑Driven Development (TDD), automated testing, integration testing, CI/CD and secure software development throughout the delivery lifecycle
  • Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Architects and Delivery Leads, translating business requirements into robust technical solutions while supporting successful delivery across UK and India‑based teams
  • Mentor and develop engineers across the function, fostering technical capability, supporting career development and building a culture of continuous improvement, knowledge sharing and engineering excellence
What's in it for you?

We offer a base salary depending on experience ranging from £65,000 - £75,000 per annum and a competitive benefits package including:

  • Annual discretionary bonus opportunity
  • 30 days annual leave
  • Choose to contribute 3% or 5% pension, with employer contributions of 6% or 8% respectively
