Job summary

JCB Power Systems in the United Kingdom is seeking a Principal Engineer – Engine Projects to lead and support engine product development from concept through to successful production launch.

You will act as a technical leader across cross-functional teams, driving project execution to meet regulatory, quality, cost and timing objectives, and coordinating with Manufacturing, Design Verification and other stakeholders.

Qualifications

• You hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline and can demonstrate equivalent qualifications and experience.
• You have more than five years' relevant industry experience within engine development or powertrain systems.
• You possess a strong understanding of the engine product development lifecycle from concept to launch.
• You have expertise in engine systems, component specification, development, testing and sign‑off processes.
• You are highly organised with the ability to manage complex technical projects with multiple stakeholders.
• You have proven project management skills and commercial awareness.

Responsibilities

• Creating and maintaining engine specification documents based on targets and requirements.
• Developing and managing engine-level project plans covering activities across all engineering functions.
• Analyzing project plans to identify critical paths, risks and delays with mitigation plans.
• Working with cross-functional teams to define activities, resources and delivery plans.
• Prioritising engineering resources to ensure successful project execution.
• Managing changes in project scope and alignment across plans and stakeholders.
• Leading prototype build planning and providing hands-on support during builds.
• Coordinating engine builds across project phases and procurement processes.
• Liaising with prototype storage to ensure component availability.
• Coordinating with Manufacturing to deliver builds on schedule.
• Ensuring components reach correct build stations and verifying installations.
• Coordinating logistics for engine shipment and testing activities.
• Supporting Design Verification Plan activities from build to dyno and testing.
• Coordinating and supervising validation activities across analytics, rig, engine and machine tests.
• Supporting development fleet and early launch products and driving issue resolution.
• Acting as the primary technical interface between Product and Powertrain teams.
• Providing status updates to Programme and Leadership teams.
• Maintaining issue tracking and applying problem-solving methodologies.
• Supporting gateways, milestone reviews and engineering sign-off.
• Driving continuous improvement through lessons learned and standard updates.
