Ontic Engineering & Manufacturing Limited in Bishops Cleeve near Cheltenham seeks a Mechanical Engineer to join the Engineering team, supporting the ongoing integrity, performance and compliance of our aerospace and defence products across their full lifecycle.

You will lead design reviews, changes and root cause investigations, mentor graduates and contribute to obsolescence strategies while balancing technical, quality, cost and schedule requirements.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electronics Engineering with lead/senior design or manufacturing experience.
• Strong design verification/validation and experience with design changes and critical design reviews.
• Root cause analysis and corrective actions expertise.
• CAD literacy (Altium & Windchill preferred).
• Knowledge of aerospace or regulated industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide electronics engineering expertise across the product lifecycle.
• Ensure product conformance to design through documentation and reviews.
• Approve alternative components in response to obsolescence and supply challenges.
• Lead and approve engineering changes via ECN processes.
• Contribute to redesign and product improvement balancing cost, schedule and quality.
• Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Produce high-quality engineering reports and documentation.
• Support obsolescence and counterfeit mitigation strategies.
• Mentor graduates and junior engineers to develop capability.

Job Overview

Ontic, a leading licensor and manufacturer of complex engineering parts for the global aerospace and defence industries, is recruiting a Mechanical Engineer to join our Engineering team based at Bishops Cleeve, where you'll support us in ensuring the ongoing integrity, performance and compliance of our products across their full lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide electronic engineering expertise to internal and external stakeholders across the product lifecycle.
• Ensure continued product conformance to design through review and adherence to technical documentation.
• Assess and approve alternative components in response to obsolescence and supply chain challenges.
• Lead and approve engineering changes through formal ECN processes.
• Play a key role in redesign and product improvement projects, balancing technical, quality, cost and schedule requirements.
• Lead root cause investigations and implement effective corrective actions.
• Produce high-quality technical documentation and engineering reports.
• Support obsolescence and counterfeit mitigation strategies alongside Component Engineering.
• Mentor and coach graduates and junior engineers, fostering capability development within the team.

Qualifications

At Ontic, we are looking for an experienced Electronics Engineer with a background in digital and/or analogue design or evaluation within a reliability‑critical environment.

• A degree (or equivalent experience) in Electronics Engineering with demonstrable experience in a lead or senior technical role within design or manufacturing.
• Strong understanding of design verification and validation principles with experience approving design changes and participating in critical design reviews.
• Root cause analysis and corrective action expertise.
• CAD literacy (Altium & Windchill preferred).
• Knowledge of applicable aerospace or regulated industry standards.
• Experience within aerospace or another highly regulated sector strongly preferred.
• Exposure to RF design or evaluation would be advantageous, but not essential.
