Job summary

GM Performance Power Units in Milton Keynes invites an experienced engineer to lead the development of next‑generation MGU components for Formula 1. You will integrate mechanical and electrical design, manage prototypes and testing, and ensure FIA compliance to deliver race‑ready power units.

You will steer cross‑functional teams, drive material and manufacturing innovations, and uphold safety, reliability, and performance under demanding schedules.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or related).
  • Masters/PhD preferred with 5+ years in motorsport or high‑speed electric machines.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-disciplinary teams—electromagnetics, mechanical design, thermal, controls, and advanced manufacturing—to integrate and optimize the MGU within the hybrid powertrain.
  • Oversee prototype development, dynamometer testing programs, and data‑driven iterations guiding engineering functions to achieve race‑ready solutions.
  • Direct design reviews, FMEA processes, documentation, and ensure compliance with FIA F1 regulations on MGU power, weight, RPM limits, and safety interfaces.
  • Foster innovation by driving R&D into next‑gen materials, manufacturing advances, and DFM/DFA for scalable e‑motor production.

Direct design reviews, FMEA processes, documentation, and compliance with FIA F1 regulations on MGU power, weight, RPM limits, and safety interfaces. Foster innovation by driving research into next-gen materials (e.g., advanced composites, magnetic alloys), manufacturing advances, and DFM/DFA principles to enable scalable, high-quality e-motor production. Proven experience with rotor-stator integration, high-speed dynamics, bearing selection, vibration mitigation, and FIA F1 power unit regulations.
