Job summary

GM Performance Power Units in the United Kingdom seeks a senior propulsion engineer to lead the MGU integration within a hybrid F1 powertrain. You will direct cross-disciplinary teams across design, thermal and controls to maximize power density and race reliability.

The role focuses on prototype development, dynamometer programs, and data-driven iterations to deliver validated, race-ready solutions while meeting FIA F1 regulations and safety interfaces.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 8+ years in high-speed electric motors, motorsport ERS, or hybrid powertrains; Master's/PhD with 5+ years preferred.
  • Experience with rotor-stator integration and powertrain regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-disciplinary teams—electromagnetics, mechanical design, thermal, controls—to optimize the MGU within the hybrid powertrain.
  • Oversee prototype development, dynamometer testing, and data-driven iterations for race-ready solutions.
  • Direct design reviews, FMEA, documentation, and FIA F1 regulation compliance.
  • Drive R&D into advanced materials, manufacturing, and DFM/ DFA for scalable production.

  • Lead cross-disciplinary teams-electromagnetics, mechanical design, thermal, controls, and advanced manufacturing-to integrate and optimize the MGU within the hybrid powertrain, ensuring maximum power density, efficiency, and race reliability. Oversee prototype development, dynamometer testing programs, and data-driven iterations guiding engineering functions to achieve validated, race-ready solutions. Direct design reviews, FMEA processes, documentation, and compliance with FIA F1 regulations on MGU power, weight, RPM limits, and safety interfaces. Foster innovation by driving research into next-gen materials (e.g., advanced composites, magnetic alloys), manufacturing advances, and DFM/DFA principles to enable scalable, high-quality e-motor production.
