You will lead electrical design for diverse building projects, driving sustainable, code-compliant systems and mentoring junior engineers while coordinating with structural, mechanical and architectural teams.

Qualifications

• B.Eng or B.Sc in Electrical Engineering required.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in electrical building services design.
• Proven track record leading electrical design for complex building projects (commercial, residential, healthcare).
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Dialux, Amtech/Prolek.
• PrEng registration with ECSA is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design for building services from concept to construction documentation.
• Develop electrical system designs including lighting, power distribution, earthing, lightning protection, standby power and fire alarm systems.
• Produce detailed drawings, calculations, and specifications using industry-standard software.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant building codes and client requirements.

About the Role

Our client, a prestigious multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy based in Randburg, Gauteng , is seeking an experienced Lead Electrical Design Engineer specializing in building services. This hybrid role involves both on-site client engagement and design work, as well as remote collaboration. You will be responsible for leading the electrical design for a variety of prestigious building projects, including commercial, residential, and institutional developments. Your expertise will be crucial in developing innovative and sustainable electrical systems that meet the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and functionality. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design process for building services projects, from conceptual design through to detailed design and construction documentation.
• Develop electrical system designs, including lighting, power distribution, earthing, lightning protection, standby power systems, and fire alarm systems.
• Produce detailed drawings, calculations, and specifications using industry-standard software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Amtech).
• Ensure designs comply with relevant building codes, standards (SANS, BS, IEC), and client requirements.
• Coordinate effectively with other disciplines, including structural, mechanical, and architectural teams.
• Manage project timelines and deliverables for electrical components of building projects.
• Review shop drawings, submittals, and respond to site queries during the construction phase.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior electrical engineers and designers.
• Conduct site inspections and ensure the quality and compliance of electrical installations.
• Contribute to business development efforts by supporting proposals and tender submissions.

Requirements

• B.Eng or B.Sc in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in electrical building services design.
• Proven track record leading electrical design for complex building projects (commercial, residential, healthcare, etc.).
• Proficiency in relevant design and analysis software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Dialux, Amtech/Prolek).
• In-depth knowledge of building codes, electrical regulations, and best practices for electrical installations.
• Experience with sustainable design principles and energy-efficient systems is a plus.
• Strong leadership, communication, and client-facing skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively in a hybrid environment.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) registration with ECSA is highly advantageous.
• Experience working within the Randburg or broader Gauteng region is preferred.
