Job description

Our client is at the cutting edge of innovation and is the largest global manufacturer of load banks and power test solutions. Their products and equipment replicate real-world demands of power system infrastructure for mission-critical power applications such as data centers, healthcare, microgrids, and large commercial buildings (e.g., financial institutions) where power must stay on, even if the grid fails.

Preferred experience: Understanding of HV, MV, and LV circuits. Ideally, electrical design experience related to load banks, gensets, transformers, and/or grid-connected power transmission circuits and systems.

Job Description:

Working within the New Product Development (NPD) team, you will be responsible for defining, developing, and delivering new and enhanced products that meet customer needs in a timely and cost-efficient manner, adhering to performance, legislation, and quality standards.

You will ensure design intent is realized through timely interaction and communication with key customers, suppliers, and internal cross-functional team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Concept creation based on market and customer requirements data, including voice of customer (VOC) exercises as needed.
  2. Leading electrical design generation using analysis tools and creating electrical drawings, models, and schematics with suitable CAD packages.
  3. Defining, leading, and supporting product FMEAs, validation, and testing programs.
  4. System integration ensuring products are designed for manufacture (DFM) and meet performance targets and outputs.
  5. Creating engineering technical specifications and BOMs.
  6. Preparing test reports and technical documents to support future customer use.
  7. Identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement by staying updated on new and emerging technologies.
  8. Driving system and process improvements to enhance working practices and departmental/business efficiency.
  9. Ensuring product safety and compliance with relevant codes and standards (e.g., CE, UL, CSA).

About You:

  • BSc/BEng in electrical engineering plus proven industrial and product experience.
  • 5+ years in electrical/power systems design or NPD roles.
  • Understanding of HV, MV, and LV circuits; electrical design experience related to load banks, gensets, transformers, and grid-connected power transmission systems.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, SolidWorks Electrical, and Microsoft 365.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) status (preferred).
  • A proactive personality with energy, drive, adaptability, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Experience with similar electrical products is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with comfort engaging with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Organized, self-disciplined, detail-oriented, and capable of delivering on time.
  • People and process-oriented, with a focus on collaboration and relationship building.
