Job summary

West Sussex County Council is recruiting a Lead Driver for the Transport Provision Team based at the Drayton depot in Chichester, with travel to the three depots at Clapham, Drayton or Hop Oast (Horsham).

You will help plan and allocate driver resources to deliver a safe passenger transport service for children with special needs and vulnerable adults, undertake relief driving, and act as the first point of contact for vehicle issues, ensuring roadworthiness with support from the Transport

Qualifications

• Valid UK driving licence, including category D1 or PCV.
• Ability to drive safely and considerately in line with the Highway Code.
• Basic numeracy and literacy to enable good communication with colleagues and passengers.
• Competent IT skills to enable use of Microsoft Office Applications.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and problem solve while on the road.
• Experience of working as part of a team to deliver the service.

Responsibilities

• Relief driving when required and ensuring professional, customer-focused service.
• Act as the first point of contact for drivers for vehicle-related issues and assess road worthiness with support from the Transport Coordinator.
• Support planning and allocation of driver resources to deliver a safe passenger transport service for children with special needs and vulnerable adults.
