Job summary

Tesco UK in Welwyn Garden City is seeking a Product Analytics specialist to own analytics across digital products, drive data-informed decisions, and partner with product managers and UX leads. The role focuses on end-to-end analysis, data quality, and actionable insights that improve customer experience and business results.

You will work within a multi-disciplinary team, using SQL, Hadoop, and Tableau to deliver measurable impact.

Qualifications

  • Several years of experience in analytics positions.
  • University degree of 2:1 or higher in a quantitative discipline.
  • Advanced use of big data, business intelligence and data visualization tools.

Responsibilities

  • Owning relationships with product managers and UX leads, helping define objectives and key results, setting targets, analysing releases, validating hypotheses, and making recommendations.
  • Executing end-to-end analysis: gathering requirements, defining success metrics, identifying data sources, validating analysis methods, delivering insights to clients.
  • Using data from multiple sources to identify trends, expose opportunities, and answer business questions.
  • Be the lead expert on digital and product analytics, driving best practice across the business.
  • Guiding and mentoring others; delivering structured training to upskill the team.
  • Using models and advanced analytics to improve customer experience and business results.
  • Identifying data quality improvements to increase KPI accuracy.
  • Incorporating external data for benchmarking.

The Product Analytics and Experimentation team sits within the Digital Product team in Technology function. Our mission is to deliver insightful and actionable data, through reporting, analysis, and optimisation; with a focus on establishing best-practice processes and enabling data-driven decision making across all product teams. The Groceries, Clubcard websites and apps, Tesco till, Colleague Apps and the newly launched Clubcard Plus propositions are amongst the digital products supported by our team

You will be responsible for
  • Owning relationships with product managers and UX leads, helping them define objectives and key results, setting targets, analysing product releases, defining and validating hypothesis, and making product recommendations.
  • Executing end-to-end analysis: gathering and shaping requirements; defining success metrics; identifying and validating sources of data; identifying and validating methods of analysis; delivering insights and liaising with clients and partners to ensure the best recommendations are identified and delivered.
  • Using data from multiple sources to identify trends, exposing new opportunities, and answering business questions.
  • Being the lead team expert on digital and product analytics, and ensuring that you drive best practice within the team. Being a central point of contact for best practice and excellence in your specialist subject around the wider business.
  • Guiding, training and mentoring others. Developing and delivering structured training to the team to assist in upskilling.
  • Using models, advanced analytics and statistical techniques to serve the purpose of the business, making recommendations to improve customer experience and business results.
  • Proactively identifying data quality improvements that increase the performance and accuracy of KPIs and analysis.
  • Giving greater context to analyses by incorporating external data for comparison purposes (industry benchmarks)

You will need
  • Working effectively with multi-disciplinary teams and understanding how to contribute to all phases of the product development lifecycle.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills - you must be able to articulate complex concepts to a diverse audience.
  • The ability to influence without authority.
  • Several years of experience in analytics positions.
  • University degree of 2:1 or higher in a quantitative discipline or relevant experience
  • A high level of commercial awareness.
  • Being a champion of digital analytics tools.
  • Managing change in a dynamic environment.
  • Advanced use of big data, business intelligence and data visualisation tools (ideally Hadoop and Tableau).
  • Advanced data collection from a range of different sources.
  • Expert level SQL and advanced ETL (cleansing, etc.)
  • Experience with visitor segmentation and statistical modelling techniques.
  • Thinking at a conceptual level across several customer and colleague touch points.
Personal
  • Flexibility, ability to plan and organise, responsiveness, creativity, self-starter.
  • Able to build solid working relationships with peers and senior leadership.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills to all levels of seniority and disciplines within the organisation.
