Job summary

Hedgehog Lab is seeking a Lead Cloud Engineer to own cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure and GCP for TS/Node/Python products from design to day-to-day running.

You will build CI/CD pipelines, manage environments as code, and drive secure, monitored and cost-efficient deployments while guiding other engineers and communicating technical choices to clients.

Qualifications

• Running infrastructure in production on AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Infrastructure as code.
• CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions or GitLab CI.
• Containers and orchestration such as Docker or ECS.
• Mentoring or leading other engineers.
• Explaining technical decisions to clients or non-technical stakeholders.
• Spotting problems and improvements early, and seeing them through without being chased.
• Nice to have experience across multiple clouds, Terraform, Kubernetes in production, consultancy/agency background.

Responsibilities

• Own the cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure and GCP for products built in TypeScript, Node and Python.
• Design and run CI/CD pipelines to enable frequent and safe releases.

Job description

You’re probably the person who gets called when a release breaks. Yet you rarely get a say in how the platform is built.

Here, you’ll be the one deciding.

What’s in it for you

Who you’ll be doing it for

You’ll join hedgehog lab, a digital product consultancy with 20 years of experience. We’re around 100 people, B Corp and Great Place to Work certified, and backed by a growth capital investor.

Your clients will be public and private sector organisations going through digital transformation, from moving to a new tech stack to building an AI platform from scratch. They include retail, health tech and financial services businesses.

You’ll work in project teams of 5 to 15 people, alongside agentic engineers, software engineers, QA and designers.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll join us as a Lead Cloud Engineer, which is what we call our DevOps engineers.

You’ll own the cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure and GCP for products built in TypeScript, Node and Python, from design through to running it day to day.

You’ll build the CI/CD pipelines that let teams release often and safely, and manage it all as code so environments stay secure, monitored and cost effective.

You’ll talk clients through technical decisions and trade-offs, and set the DevOps standards other projects follow.

Where you’ll work

Whilst there’s no set number of days you’re required to be in the office each week, we really value spending time together in person, both as a team and with our clients. There will be times when we’ll need you to be in one of our offices or at a client site for important meetings, workshops and key moments.

To make that work, you’ll need to be based within 50 miles of one of our offices in Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester or London.
