Job summary

Hedgehog Lab in the United Kingdom is seeking an experienced DevOps engineer to shape how infrastructure, pipelines and environments are built across client projects. You will design and run AWS infrastructure for TypeScript/Node/Python products, implement CI/CD pipelines and manage environments as code to stay secure and cost effective.

With mentoring responsibilities and a focus on setting standards, you will work with diverse teams across public and private sector clients that Hedgehog Lab

Qualifications

• Hands-on AWS experience in production environments.
• Experience with infrastructure as code, preferably Terraform.
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions or GitLab CI.

Responsibilities

• Design and run AWS infrastructure for multi-language products (TypeScript/Node/Python).
• Build and manage CI/CD pipelines and IaC to ensure secure, observable, and cost-effective environments.
• Explain technical decisions to clients and set DevOps standards across projects.

Job description

You're probably the person who gets called when a release breaks. Yet you rarely get a say in how the platform is built.

Here, you'll be the one deciding.

What's in it for you

You'll shape how infrastructure, pipelines and environments get built on your projects, from the first client conversation to go-live.

You'll move between different clients and problems, so you won't spend years on one platform.

You'll mentor other DevOps engineers, and the standards you set will become how we work.

Who you'll be doing it for

You'll join hedgehog lab, a digital product consultancy with 20 years of experience. We're around 100 people, B Corp and Great Place to Work certified, and backed by a growth capital investor.

Your clients will be public and private sector organisations going through digital transformation, from moving to a new tech stack to building an AI platform from scratch. They include retail, health tech and financial services businesses.

You'll work in project teams of 5 to 15 people, alongside agentic engineers, software engineers, QA and designers.

What you'll be doing

You'll design and run AWS infrastructure for products built in TypeScript, Node and Python.

You'll build the CI/CD pipelines that let teams release often and safely, and manage it all as code so environments stay secure, monitored and cost effective.

You'll talk clients through technical decisions and trade-offs, and set the DevOps standards other projects follow.

We're remote first, with no set office days. You'll come into an office or client site for important meetings, workshops and key moments.

What you'll need

You'll have hands-on AWS experience in production, and be comfortable with infrastructure as code, ideally Terraform.

You'll know CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions or GitLab CI, plus containers and orchestration such as Docker, ECS or Kubernetes.

You'll have led or mentored engineers before, and you'll be confident talking to clients and non-technical stakeholders.
