Job summary

Sustainable Infrastructure is seeking an experienced Design Manager for a major data centre project in Blyth, UK. The role will lead design delivery across Civil, Structural, Architectural and MEP disciplines, ensuring fully coordinated, compliant designs aligned with the programme and construction requirements.

The senior position requires strong leadership, technical coordination, and stakeholder management on large-scale projects, delivering design through the full lifecycle and collaborating

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years' experience managing design delivery on large-scale construction projects.
• Experience across data centres, commercial, industrial, healthcare, education or major fit-out projects.
• Data centre experience is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of design management principles and multidisciplinary coordination.
• Experience leading design teams, consultants, contractors and client stakeholders.
• Strong knowledge of design coordination, submissions, RFIs, IFC documentation and change control.
• Excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and demanding programmes.

Responsibilities

• Lead engagement with the client's design team on project-wide design and services coordination.
• Manage in-house design teams and external consultants to ensure timely design progression.
• Plan and lead design workshops, resolving design issues ahead of construction activities.
• Manage Technical Submittal (TS) processes to meet specifications and approvals.
• Provide technical leadership across the design team.
• Oversee design queries, RFIs and weekly design meetings with stakeholders.
• Coordinate IFC drawings and design releases to align with approved information.
• Manage design changes and related change-control processes.
• Lead weekly design and engineering coordination meetings with internal and external parties.
• Maintain the design risk register and communicate risks and mitigations to senior management.
• Coordinate with LEED consultants to ensure compliance.
• Ensure QA/QC procedures and project quality plans are implemented.
