If you wish to work in this innovative environment and are an experienced Database management professional who has worked on large-scale production databases with a focus on AWS and Linux, then we have an excellent role within our DevOps team as a Lead Database Engineer.

Our DevOps team supports multiple internal software teams; this high-level support enables those teams to provide our clients with best-in-class software solutions. The DevOps Team at Trimble provides development, hosting, and managed services for various application solutions and services. The databases underlying these systems are mission-critical in terms of high performance, high availability, and data security.


Your role will primarily involve developing, supporting, and operating production and development OLTP and data warehouse databases. Support activities include maintenance, tuning, and troubleshooting OLTP and reporting operations for PostgreSQL, Oracle, and MongoDB server databases. Success in this role requires knowledge of these platforms on AWS RDS instances and Linux-based infrastructure.


You will join a global team of DevOps professionals with colleagues in the US, Europe, and Asia. Experience working in international teams is advantageous. You should also have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to build excellent working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.


Due to time zone differences, you must be able to manage your own time effectively and draw on your experience to resolve database challenges.


What You Will Do:

  • Consult with application teams on architecture, code development, tuning, and best practices.
  • Provide thought leadership and proactive communication to ensure operational excellence and optimal solutions.
  • Collaborate with Development, Engineering, Systems, and Network teams for troubleshooting, debugging, root cause analysis, and resolution of issues.
  • Advise on SQL design and tuning for application development.
  • Assist with architecture, implementation, and support of high availability, failover, and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Plan, coordinate, test, and implement product upgrades and patches.
  • Possess proven experience managing large production databases or hold a BS degree in a related field.
  • Experience with high-availability, high-transaction OLTP, and large data warehouse systems.
  • Senior-level experience with PostgreSQL and Oracle databases exceeding 10TB.
  • Knowledge of AWS and other cloud platforms.
  • Contribute to schema design for new and existing products.
  • Work with development teams to migrate traditional databases to cloud solutions.
  • Have strong backup, restore, and recovery skills across platforms.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, capable of presenting to diverse audiences.
  • Experience with ITIL, ISO27001, or similar frameworks.
  • Knowledge of procedural languages like PL/SQL, scripting, automation, and database migration.
  • Familiarity with source control and software development cycles.
  • Experience with other DBMS like MS-SQL, MySQL, and NoSQL systems.
