Job summary

Flutter UK & Ireland is seeking a Lead Data Scientist to drive data science capabilities in pricing, experimentation, and analytics for its UKI brands. You will lead cross-functional teams, deploy advanced models, and shape pricing strategies to optimize performance across Paddy Power, Betfair, Sky Betting & Gaming, and tombola.

You will mentor senior data scientists, design experiments, and ensure robust insights are translated into business actions.

Qualifications

• Leader with track record of leading a data science function in a customer-focused domain.
• Proficiency with Python, SQL, Excel, Tableau.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills to interpret complex data.
• Experience with experiment design and A/B testing.
• Experience in sophisticated statistical modelling (regression, clustering, time series).
• Excellent documentation and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple data assets and meet deadlines.

This Lead Data Scientist role is based in the pricing function, which is a high performing team responsible for the delivery of new pricing strategies across the Flutter UKI brands.

You will play a lead role in developing & mobilising data science capabilities for experimentation, measurement, predictive analytics and modelling workstreams. You will work within the UKI Trading function, connecting with colleagues from across the organisation to address sophisticated pricing problems and to identify new opportunities for pricing optimisation.

As a Lead Data Scientist in the Pricing team, you will:

• Explore & mobilise new data science applications for pricing, including but not limited to, delivery of pricing models that harness predictive capabilities to advise pricing strategy decisions.
• Deploy sophisticated statistical analysis and data manipulation techniques to analyse experimental data, identify trends and derive relevant conclusions.
• Coordinate set up and definition of experiments, deploying statistical techniques and processes, ensuring robust trial outputs that yield actionable insights.
• Build autonomous systems to monitor high volumes of price experiments & strategies, tracking critical metrics vs expectations and surfacing to the wider pricing team.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of experimental builds, methodologies, and results to ensure transparency and reproducibility.
• Lead preparation and present findings to interested parties, clearly communicating the implications of pricing experiments on business strategies.
• Work proactively with cross-functional teams, including commercial, finance, and product development, to align data insights with business objectives.
• Lead senior data scientists, coordinating their respective focus areas and workloads as well as developing them personally to grow their careers.

What We’re Looking For

• Experienced leader in data science with track record leading a data science function, ideally within a customer focussed or commercial domain.
• Proficiency in multiple advanced analytics and data manipulation tools (e.g., Python, SQL, Excel, Tableau)
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with a proven track record to interpret complex data sets
• Experience with experiment design and parameter definition (sampling, control vs. test groups, front-end product changes)
• Experience in sophisticated statistical modelling techniques (e.g. regression, significant testing, clustering, A/B testing, time series analysis)
• Excellent documentation skills, with attention to detail and the ability to build clear and concise reports.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences
• Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to finding opportunities for improvement
• Ability to manage and own multiple data and analytics assets simultaneously and to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Collaborative outlook, able to build strong and effective relationships both within the Pricing team and across the business at all levels
• Ideally, experience working on pricing and/or pricing strategy projects in a large business setting
