Job summary

Deaf Unity is seeking a Lead Data Engineer to act as a technical orchestrator within a real-time data ecosystem. You’ll balance data architecture with cloud-native infrastructure, guiding architecture while still delivering hands-on code.

Responsibilities include designing scalable data architectures, mentoring the team, and ensuring delivery with strong governance. The role is hybrid, requiring 1–2 days on-site in London, and offers permanent employment.

Qualifications

• Experience leading technical system designs in cloud-native, high-scale data environments.
• Hands-on engineering of real-time data ingestion/processing pipelines.
• Mentoring engineers and steering DevOps culture with a code-first approach.

Responsibilities

• Technical Orchestration: translate roadmaps into high-level designs for event-driven streaming solutions.
• Data & Infrastructure Architecture: architect real-time pipelines and align with cloud infrastructure teams.
• People Leadership & Mentoring: grow engineering capability, run code reviews, and define quality standards.
• Delivery Flow: break down requirements into technical tasks and manage a lean backlog.
• Operational Excellence & SLA Management: ensure reliability and implement proactive monitoring.
• Escalation & Support: participate in weekly rotations and lead RCAs when incidents occur.
