Job summary

BMW is seeking a Lead Data Architect for a 6-month Farnborough-based contract with 2–3 days onsite. The role focuses on migrating IBM DB2 databases to AWS Aurora PostgreSQL, building robust data models, and defining history, audit, and retention strategies.

You will collaborate with business and technology teams to deliver data architecture solutions, provide migration expertise, and drive optimisation across a large cloud transformation program.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and implementing data architectures for large-scale databases.
• Proven ability to migrate databases to cloud platforms with minimal downtime.
• Strong communication skills to translate complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Migrate IBM DB2 databases to AWS Aurora PostgreSQL.
• Design and build logical and physical data models to support business and technical requirements.
• Communicate complex data concepts clearly to stakeholders and non-technical audiences.
• Define and implement database history, audit, and retention strategies.
• Collaborate with business and technology teams to deliver data architecture solutions.
• Provide expertise in database design, migration, and optimisation.
• Experience with AWS Database Migration Service (AWS DMS) is highly desirable.
• Engage in strong stakeholder management and clear communication throughout the migration.
• Work independently within large-scale cloud transformation programmes.
