Job summary

MDE UK seeks a Lead Control Engineer to own safe operation and development of its HV network in London. The role sits between hands-on operations and broader network management, with ownership across assurance, asset performance, maintenance and control.

You will work with engineering, delivery and commercial teams to ensure safe, reliable operation in line with standards, provide technical leadership and mentoring, and drive improvements across processes as the network grows.

Role: Lead Control Engineer - Network Operations

Location: London/Hybrid

Salary: Up to £90,000 + car allowance + bonus

About the Role

We are working with a rapidly growing electricity network operator looking to appoint a Lead Control Engineer to play a key role in the safe and effective operation and development of its expanding network.

This is a senior position that sits between hands-on network operations and wider network management. You'll take ownership across operational assurance, asset performance, maintenance, commissioning and network control, while helping develop the processes and standards needed to support a growing portfolio of HV networks.

The business is continuing to expand across major connections including data centres, EV infrastructure, battery storage, renewable generation and other large-scale energy projects, making this an opportunity to join at an exciting stage of its growth.

The Role

You'll work closely with the wider engineering, delivery and commercial teams to ensure the network is operated safely, reliably and in line with the required technical and regulatory standards.

The role will include:

• Providing senior technical and operational leadership across the electricity network.
• Supporting network control, switching, outages and operational planning.
• Overseeing network asset performance, maintenance and operational readiness.
• Supporting the commissioning, adoption and handover of new network assets.
• Developing and maintaining operational procedures, standards and assurance processes.
• Working with ICPs, DNOs, contractors and other third parties to ensure network assets are delivered and operated correctly.
• Reviewing operational documentation, RAMS, switching schedules and safety arrangements.
• Supporting fault response, network security and outage management.
• Ensuring accurate operational records and asset information are maintained.
• Identifying opportunities to improve network reliability, safety and operational efficiency.
• Helping shape the operational processes and standards as the network and wider team continue to grow.
• Providing technical leadership and mentoring to other engineers and operational personnel.

About You

We're looking for someone with a strong background in HV electricity networks and operational engineering, ideally gained within a DNO, IDNO, ICP, transmission network or similar environment.

You'll ideally have:

• Significant experience working across HV electricity networks.
• Strong knowledge of network operations, switching and outage management.
• Experience working with HV safety rules and operational procedures.
• Experience with network control and/or SCADA.
• A strong understanding of asset management, maintenance and commissioning.
• Experience working with contractors, ICPs, DNOs or other network stakeholders.
• The ability to review technical and operational documentation and challenge where required.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Experience providing technical leadership or managing engineers/operational teams.

Experience at 33kV and above would be particularly valuable.
