As a Lead Control Automation System Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the requirements, design, implementation, and development of the digital control system for the HVDC Control & Protection system.
This role involves close collaboration across various engineering disciplines within the HVDC business, focusing on developing organizational talent, managing engineering processes, providing technical guidance and mentoring, and ensuring design practices meet global project objectives.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Oversee the overall technical solution to meet customer requirements based on reference solutions.
- Lead the requirement gathering, design, implementation, and testing of the HVDC Control & Protection system, including network and cybersecurity design.
- Configure IEC61850 IEDs using vendor-specific tools and generate system configuration files (SCL).
- Apply knowledge of sequencing and interlocking principles in substation automation systems.
- Design, configure, and test HVDC control system hardware to deliver on time and within budget.
- Lead testing and debugging of IEC61850 communication systems using industry-standard tools.
- Experience with HMI/SCADA technologies, including implementation, testing, and installation.
- Coordinate HVDC control system with Balance of Plant equipment and SCADA systems.
- Define IO lists, analyze signal interfaces, and ensure compatibility.
- Lead configuration of RTUs, BCUs, and Merging Units for digital substation environments.
- Design LAN networks, communication architectures, and configure industrial Ethernet switches/routers.
- Follow standard design practices, conduct engineering reviews, and produce detailed design documentation.
- Prepare electrical schematics, wire/cable schedules, test specifications, assembly drawings, and BOMs.
- Oversee testing and FAT witnessing of control systems.
- Prepare and present technical information to internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist with site activities related to installation and commissioning.
- Ensure proper documentation and promote open engineering dialogue.
- Coach and develop department talent, and continuously improve product delivery, stability, and reliability.
- Review and approve design documents, ensuring quality and timeliness.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Extensive experience with configuring substation controllers, IEC61850 IEDs, HMI, and SCADA.
- Strong background in control and protection system design.
- Knowledge of industrial communication networks and cybersecurity best practices.
- Experience with electrical power systems and substation automation engineering.
