Job summary

Admiral Business is seeking a senior Commercial Property Underwriter to shape our Property underwriting strategy in the UK. You will influence appetite, pricing and portfolio decisions, working closely with Pricing, Product and Data to build a scalable, insight-led proposition for brokers and customers.

You’ll leverage deep knowledge of Property risks to drive profitable growth, manage exposure and deliver long-term value in a fast-paced, hybrid Cardiff-based role.

Qualifications

• Proven experience underwriting UK Commercial Property across SME, Commercial Package, Property Owners or Commercial Combined products.
• Strong technical knowledge of Property risks, including occupancy, construction, fire, flood, escape of water, theft, business interruption and sums insured.
• Good understanding of Property rating, risk selection, referral management and portfolio performance.
• Experience collaborating with Pricing, Data or Portfolio teams to inform underwriting strategy.
• Excellent underwriting judgement balancing risk quality, pricing, broker relationships and commercial outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Own and monitor the performance of a portfolio of UK Commercial Property business, balancing growth, profitability and customer outcomes.
• Shape Property underwriting appetite, referral strategies, acceptance criteria and portfolio governance.
• Act as a technical Property expert within the Underwriting team, supporting colleagues and embedding best practice.
• Partner with Pricing to refine rating models and optimise portfolio performance.
• Work with Product to evolve the Commercial Property proposition and coverage considerations.
• Use underwriting data, claims insight and market trends to identify opportunities and risks.
• Support development of underwriting rules across Property risk factors (occupancy, construction, fire protection, flood, BI, sums insured).
• Help manage Property exposure, accumulation and risk quality across the portfolio.
• Build strong relationships with regional brokers to support growth.
• Contribute to a scalable, data-led underwriting capability aligned with Admiral’s long-term goals.

As a core member of our Underwriting team, you’ll play a key role in shaping our Property underwriting strategy, helping us build a profitable, scalable and insight-led Commercial Property proposition. Working closely with Pricing, Product and Data, you’ll use your technical underwriting expertise to influence appetite, improve portfolio performance and support sustainable growth across our UK Commercial Property book.

This isn’t a traditional underwriting role focused solely on individual risks. You’ll help define how we underwrite Property business, how we manage exposure and how we use data, claims insight and market intelligence to make better decisions for our customers, brokers and the business.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Help manage Property exposure, accumulation and risk quality across the portfolio.
• Build and develop strong relationships with regional brokers, supporting profitable and sustainable growth.
• Contribute to the development of a scalable, data-led underwriting capability that supports Admiral’s long-term ambitions in the Commercial market.

About You

You’re more than an experienced Commercial Property Underwriter. You’re technically strong, commercially curious and motivated by the opportunity to help shape something new.

You’ll bring:

• Proven experience underwriting UK Commercial Property business, ideally across SME, Commercial Package, Property Owners or Commercial Combined products.
• Strong technical knowledge of Property risks, including occupancy, construction, fire, flood, escape of water, theft, business interruption and sums insured.
• A good understanding of Property rating, risk selection, referral management and portfolio performance.
• Experience working with Pricing, Data or Portfolio teams to analyse performance and inform underwriting strategy.
• Excellent underwriting judgement, balancing risk quality, pricing, broker relationships and commercial outcomes.
• Experience building and managing broker relationships.
• A strong understanding of the UK Commercial insurance market and relevant FCA requirements.
• The ability to interpret claims trends, market developments and underwriting data to support decision-making.
• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• The confidence to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment where you’ll have genuine ownership and autonomy.
