Job description

NHS Fife Pharmacy and Medicines Directorate has an opportunity for an outstanding individual to lead the clinical pharmacy team(s) providing services to Surgery and Emergency Care services, providing clinical leadership, management excellence and development and delivery of strategic clinical vision. The Pharmacy and Medicines Directorate has published an overarching pharmacy strategy for the next two years and this post will be integral to its delivery.

The portfolio includes the following remit: Surgical Specialities and Theatres, Critical Care Services and Admissions and ED Services.

This post would suit someone with excellent clinical knowledge, experience of leadership at a senior level in an organisation as well as excellent communication skills. You will have significant post graduate experience in clinical pharmacy, be an independent prescriber, and as part of your role, you will have a regular clinical commitment within your portfolio area.

You will lead a multi-role team to ensure safe and effective delivery of clinical pharmacy services and work in collaboration with service/clinical leads in overall delivery of patient care services for the patients across Surgery and Emergency Care areas. While candidates may have previously worked in a ‘single speciality’, we are looking for those eager to diversify their portfolios and provide ownership and leadership over a wide area of clinical specialities, working closely with those within their team to ensure continuity in clinical care. The individual will work closely on team member development and training to ensure effective and efficient clinical governance across clinical pharmacy services delivered via a robust and enthusiastic workforce.

Furthermore, this role will also provide leadership and management to both the Clinical and Pharmacy Leadership teams ensuring operational and strategic priorities are delivered in line with department, Board and national priorities. Working closely with peers within the Clinical Senior Leadership team the post-holder will hold key leadership responsibilities in delivery of our Foundation Pharmacist Rotational Programme, our Specialist Pharmacist rotational programme and both our On-call and Weekend services.

The NHS Fife Pharmacy and Medicines Directorate provides an ambitious programme of integrated care to the persons of Fife. It serves a population of approximately 380,000 people and is provided by a team of around 300 Pharmacy staff, including Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Support Workers, Nurses, and Administrators. The team operate across Acute and Community hospital sites, General Practices, Mental Health services, and a range of specialist teams. Partnership working is at the core of our values, and we work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team, including our Community Pharmacy colleagues, to deliver the highest quality care for everyone in Fife.

As part of our staff engagement and leadership, our Pharmacy Senior Leadership hold monthly staff briefing sessions to update the team on new developments, celebrate achievements and to hear ideas from our staff.

Please note the job description is for a generic Lead Clinical Pharmacist role and a detailed job plan and annual objectives will be agreed in line with strategic priorities.
