Job summary

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in London is recruiting a Band 6 Charge Nurse for the new Surgical Assessment Unit at Charing Cross Hospital. You will provide clinical leadership, supervise junior staff, and drive efficient patient flow in a fast-paced acute setting.

Working as deputy to the Unit Matron, you will shape a multidisciplinary team, mentor Band 5 staff and collaborate with ED, SDEC and diagnostics to deliver timely care in line with Trust and NMC guidelines.

Qualifications

• Proven leadership in nursing
• Experience in acute surgical care or SAU preferred
• Ability to mentor junior staff and manage busy shifts

Responsibilities

• Oversee triage, assessment, stabilization and care planning for acute surgical patients across multiple specialties
• Lead shifts as coordinator, ensure safe staffing, coordinate admissions/discharges, and manage patient flow
• Mentor/precept Band 5 nurses, HCAs and student nurses; promote auditing of practice
• Liaise with emergency doctors, registrars, consultants and diagnostics to maintain swift turnaround
• Ensure nursing practices meet Trust/NMC guidelines with strong infection control, documentation and patient safety
