Job summary

Isle of Wight NHS Trust is looking for an experienced nurse to lead Mottistone Ward, supporting the Charge Nurse in daily operations and ensuring safe, compassionate patient care for elective surgical and orthopaedic patients. You will mentor staff and play a key role in the ward's expansion to eight additional beds.

Responsibilities

• Support the Charge Nurse in day-to-day leadership and ward management to ensure safe, high-quality care.
• Deliver patient-centred care for elective surgical and orthopaedic patients, promoting dignity and experiences.
• Role model clinical excellence and supportive team culture.
• Supervise and develop nursing staff, care assistants and students.
• Assist with staff allocation and ensure safe staffing and skill mix.
• Monitor patient conditions, identify deterioration and escalate accordingly.
• Support safe admission, transfer and discharge processes to maintain patient flow.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to coordinate care and outcomes.
• Ensure timely documentation of nursing assessments and care plans.
• Promote patient safety, infection control and medicines management.
• Support ward development with expansion plans (8 additional beds).
• Participate in quality improvement and ward audits.
• Foster a welcoming environment for patients, relatives, and staff.
