Job summary

Newcastle University is seeking a CAD Design & Teaching Technician to lead CAD standards and provide teaching support across the School of Engineering. You will deliver advanced CAD design, prototyping, and fabrication assistance for student and research projects, including flagship teams like Formula Student and Rail Buggy.

The role requires extensive CAD experience, strong communication, and a full UK driving licence.

Qualifications

Extensive, demonstrable experience in the practical application of CAD systems within engineering/design/education settings.
Advanced knowledge of CAD principles, standards, drawing practice, and data management.
Proven ability to design components and assemblies for functional prototypes and projects.
Experience with rapid prototyping and fabrication processes, including additive manufacturing and machining.

Responsibilities

Act as the school’s lead specialist for CAD systems, standards, workflows, and methodologies, advising staff and students.
Define and maintain consistent CAD standards, drawing practices, data management, and filing conventions across teaching and project activity.
Lead evaluation, selection, and development of CAD software, plugins, and related digital tools.
Deliver CAD-focused teaching sessions, workshops, and training across programmes.
Provide advanced CAD design support for student and research projects and supervise complex projects.
