We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Business Analyst (Grade 11) to join the Change Practices team on a permanent basis.

Team Overview:

The Change Practices team is responsible as a whole for the Transformation and Change capability, and each practice area is responsible for promoting best practice and maturity of processes in their area.

The BA Practice team sits within the Change Practices Team to:

● Provide a Business Analysis resource pool for complex changes

● Lead the BA Community of Practice to define, maintain and embed a framework for best practice in business analysis; and

● Assure the quality of requirements production as required across Elexon

Job Purpose:

The Lead Business Analyst provides business analysis capability and matrixed resource to Elexon’s cross functional teams, i.e. products (e.g. Digital Products) and industry change teams (e.g. Rules Management, MHHS Release). This is a senior role within the BA Practice to provide leadership as well as business analysis services.

The Lead BA is responsible for overseeing and enhancing the performance of the Business Analysis (BA) team within a programme. This involves managing resources, ensuring high-quality BA activities, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. The Lead BA will guide team members, provide support, mentor and coach and also conduct quality reviews of their work. The role extends to developing the BA Practice capability by implementing best practices, refining frameworks, and promoting collaboration and agility within the organisation. The Lead BA will lead the planning and execution of BA activities for various programmes, ensuring alignment with organisational strategies and roadmaps.

Additionally, the Lead BA will independently elicit, analyse, and document business requirements, facilitating communication between business and technical stakeholders, including industry representatives to ensure that requirements and solutions align with enterprise architecture principles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on the business analysis of more complex projects and programmes, but also be comfortable working on smaller projects if required.
  • Lead on the approach for planning business analysis activities and deliverables for the initiatives under the allocated programme and be accountable for the completion of tasks and activities to achieve the planned approach.
  • Collaborate with team members (internal or from service providers) ensuring that the requirements are drafted for the proposed solution to meet the business outcomes
  • Improve the delivery of programmes and services using best practices on Agile ceremonies and analysis
  • Mature the BA Practice team, capabilities and framework by applying, sharing and embedding best practice, creating templates, embedding techniques for Elexon learnt within the organisation or through external forums to ensure consistency, application of best practices, standards and value from our tools, people and processes
  • Apply standards and methods to ensure consistency, re-use, scalability and alignment of requirements and analysis artefacts across product, change and project teams
  • Build and embed the business analysis function in Elexon, ensuring a consistent, trusted and recognised business analysis framework
  • Collaborate, influence and develop positive ways of working across teams to break down silos and support dependency management specifically for large programmes
  • Provide support, mentoring and coaching to team members and undertake quality reviews of the analysis carried out
  • Ensure requirements and solutions are aligned with Elexon’s enterprise architecture principles and target architectures
  • Assure as required the business analysis undertaken by less experienced business analysts and that undertaken by other requirements authors e.g. Market Designers and Change Assessment Team colleagues is in-line with the expected outcomes
  • Embed and lead by example on Elexon’s values and behaviours e.g. collaboration, self-organising teams, enabling business agility
  • Independently elicit, analyse, define, document and communicate the business requirements using in-depth knowledge of the BA tools and techniques to create a shared understanding amongst business and technical stakeholders to enable the implementation of an effective solution.
  • Help communicate the business impact of complex initiatives, and ensure that everyone involved understands the requirements and how the provided solution would addresses them
  • Identify and engage appropriately with all stakeholders, including industry stakeholders where relevant
  • Accountable for providing line and performance management (resource allocation, capacity planning, performance, recruitment etc.) and ensuring the quality of BA activities performed by the reporting BAs
  • Accountable for ensuring team members under their responsibility have forecasted commitment plans available for the Practice Lead
  • Be proactive and propose tasks and deliverables that have not been considered by the project or product team that are required for successful delivery
  • Facilitate department and cross-company projects and complex initiative sessions to provide context of changes where a solution may not exist to reach possible outcomes
  • Contribute to the review, development and communication of team policies, processes and procedures

  • Able to elicit, document, analyse complex business requirements including calculations
  • Substantial experience in a particular area of expertise – SME and/or BA best practice
  • Experience working on a large transformation programme
  • Experience defining or contributing to BA approaches and ways of working, e.g. process mapping standards
  • Team leadership and the ability to motivate team members
  • Able to provide appropriate feedback to individuals to celebrate successes and manage weaknesses.
  • Recognised business analysis qualification e.g. BCS Diploma in Business Analysis or IIBA CCBA or CBAP
  • Familiar with enterprise architecture tools (e.g Orbus), Agile tools (e.g. JIRA/Azure DevOps)
  • Experience in data – definition, analysis, modelling
  • Experience in digital transformation – legacy systems to modern architecture patterns (e.g. microservices / data hubs)
  • Experience in developing business cases / defining initiatives
  • Experience in line management / coaching
