Job summary

Search is seeking an experienced Principal Design Engineer to lead the design and delivery of building services projects across commercial, residential, healthcare, and education sectors in the UK. You will coordinate multidisciplinary teams and drive technical excellence from concept to completion.

You will mentor engineers, engage with clients, ensure adherence to UK Building Regulations, and contribute to sustainability and net-zero initiatives.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or actively working towards Chartership.
• Extensive building services design experience within a consultancy environment.
• Strong knowledge of UK building regulations and relevant design standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of building services projects from concept through to completion.
• Manage multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinate with architects, contractors, and external stakeholders.
• Produce and review detailed engineering calculations, specifications, reports, and technical drawings.
• Provide technical leadership across HVAC, public health, electrical, or mechanical building services disciplines.
• Ensure compliance with current regulations, British Standards, and industry best practices.
• Attend client meetings and act as a technical lead throughout project lifecycles.
• Support business development activities, including fee proposals, presentations, and bid submissions.
• Manage project resources, budgets, and programme delivery.
• Mentor and develop junior and intermediate engineers.
• Contribute to sustainability initiatives, low-carbon design strategies, and net-zero projects.
