Job summary

Stantec, a global design firm, is seeking a Principal Building Physics Engineer to lead our national capability across the Southwest, with weekly travel to the Plymouth office.

You will guide building performance, energy strategy, facade optimisation, and sustainable design decisions while mentoring staff and collaborating with MEP, Architecture and Sustainability teams to deliver low‑carbon, net‑zero solutions.

Qualifications

• Extensive consultancy building physics and energy modelling experience.
• Advanced proficiency in IES-VE (or equivalent) including complex simulation.
• Strong understanding of passive design, low-carbon buildings and façade performance.
• Demonstrated project leadership and ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication skills to engage clients and present technical information.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of building physics workstreams on large projects.
• Oversee dynamic modelling (IES-VE, TAS, DesignBuilder) and related analyses.
• Develop energy strategies, TM54 assessments, and net‑zero design.
• Guide façade performance and building fabric optimisation.
• Ensure compliance with Part L, TM52/TM59, EPC and credits.
• Present findings to clients and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with MEP, Architecture, Sustainability teams.
• Mentor graduates and contribute to national capability.
