Job summary

Waystone is seeking a Lead Automation Engineer to drive automation across the organisation, integrating systems via APIs, webhooks and event-driven patterns. You will champion no-code/low-code automation and set the standards for secure, scalable workflows.

The role emphasizes embedding AI steps within automations, mentoring engineers and establishing the automation Centre of Excellence, with strong governance and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in automation, integration, or related engineering.
• Proven experience designing enterprise automation with low-code platforms (n8n or Power Automate).
• Experience establishing automation standards, governance and reusable patterns.
• Experience embedding AI capabilities in workflows in partnership with AI engineering teams.
• Experience mentoring others in automation and workflow design.

Responsibilities

• Act as Waystone’s technical lead for workflow automation and orchestration.
• Define and maintain the automation Centre of Excellence (CoE).
• Lead design and delivery of complex automation solutions integrating SaaS, internal systems, APIs and cloud services.
• Provide hands-on contribution to workflow design, scripting and validation.
• Establish best practice for design, testing, deployment, monitoring and support.
• Embed AI steps within workflows, consuming AI capabilities from the AI Engineering team.
• Ensure automations using AI follow guardrails, evaluation and cost controls.
• Partner with the Lead AI Engineer on hybrid solutions and the orchestration layer.
• Support business users in no-code and low-code adoption with guardrails.
• Review designs to identify fragility, security risks and long-term support issues.
• Evaluate emerging automation technologies and maintain a capability roadmap.
• Uplift automation capability across the organisation through coaching and knowledge sharing.
