Job summary

Reed Accountancy & Finance is partnering with a Blyth-based business to recruit a Lead Accountant. This role takes ownership of the month-end reporting cycle and delivers insightful financial analysis to support strategic decisions.

The ideal candidate will be ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified or studying, with strong Excel skills and experience in management accounts and month-end processes. Hybrid working offers a balance of office and home-based work.

Qualifications

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification, or be actively studying towards a professional accounting qualification.
• Experience in a similar accounting or finance role in a commercial environment.
• Strong Excel skills and confidence with financial systems (IFS a plus).
• Experience producing management accounts and supporting month-end processes.
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the month-end accounts production and reporting cycle.
• Prepare and post monthly journals, incl. accruals and prepayments.
• Produce accurate and timely management accounts in line with deadlines.
• Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
• Deliver monthly flash reports and weekly KPI reporting.
• Oversee accounts payable, including reviewing and approving payment runs.
• Provide financial analysis and insight to support business performance.
• Support Operations and wider Finance with reporting and projects.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, controls and efficiencies.
• Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data across reporting activities.

Reed Accountancy & Finance are partnering with a well-established business in Blyth to recruit a Lead Accountant. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified or part-qualified accountant to join a growing finance team and take ownership of the month-end reporting cycle while providing valuable financial insight to support operational and strategic decision-making.

This role would suit a proactive and detail-oriented finance professional who enjoys working closely with both operational stakeholders and finance colleagues, ensuring accurate reporting, strong financial controls, and continuous process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the month-end accounts production and reporting cycle
• Prepare and post monthly journals, including accruals and prepayments
• Produce accurate and timely management accounts in line with reporting deadlines
• Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations
• Deliver monthly flash reports and weekly KPI reporting
• Oversee the accounts payable function, including reviewing and approving payment runs
• Provide financial analysis and insight to support business performance
• Support the Operations team and wider Group Finance function with reporting and project work
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, controls, and efficiencies
• Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data across reporting activities

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification, or be actively studying towards a professional accounting qualification
• Previous experience in a similar accounting or finance role within a commercial environment
• Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial systems (IFS experience would be advantageous)
• Experience producing management accounts and supporting month-end processes
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
• The ability to build effective relationships and communicate confidently with stakeholders across the business
• A proactive approach and a desire to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
