Job summary

Hunter Philips Executive Search is seeking an experienced Lead Commissioning Engineer for a 12-month plus extension contract in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. You will lead the commissioning program for a SSEN 400kV GIS substation extension, overseeing energisation and handover.

The role requires leadership across GIS, protection, control and secondary systems, with strong experience at 400kV and a track record of managing outages and staged energisations on live infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience leading commissioning at 400kV substations.
• Strong knowledge of GIS and HV primary plant.
• Experience with IEC 61850 systems and protection schemes.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate commissioning activities for the 400kV GIS substation extension.
• Manage the commissioning and integration of new 400kV GIS bays and associated primary plant into the existing operational substation.
• Coordinate primary and secondary commissioning activities across GIS, protection, control, interlocking and auxiliary systems.
• Lead the testing and integration of busbar protection, including modifications and extensions required to accommodate the new 400kV assets.
• Oversee IEC 61850 testing and integration between new and existing protection and control systems.
• Plan and coordinate commissioning activities around existing live 400kV infrastructure, outages and staged energisations.
• Develop, review and manage commissioning programmes, procedures, ITPs, test documentation and energisation plans.
• Coordinate commissioning engineers, OEM representatives, subcontractors and other project stakeholders.
• Manage technical interfaces between the existing substation and new extension works, identifying and resolving commissioning issues.
• Liaise closely with SSEN Transmission throughout testing, outage, energisation and handover activities.
• Review test results and ensure commissioning documentation is completed to the required SSEN standards.
• Provide technical leadership throughout multiple commissioning phases of the long-term project.
