Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and detail-focused Lathe Machine Operator to join our nightshift manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating lathe machinery safely and efficiently to produce components to the required specifications, while maintaining high standards of quality and productivity.
The role involves preparing materials, operating machinery, carrying out routine quality checks and ensuring finished components meet the required dimensions and specifications. The successful candidate will work as part of a team while also being capable of working independently during the nightshift.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate lathe machinery safely and efficiently in accordance with company procedures and work instructions.
- Load and unload materials and components into the machine.
- Set and adjust basic machine controls and settings as required.
- Select and change tooling as required, following established procedures.
- Follow engineering drawings, specifications and work instructions.
- Monitor the machining process and make basic adjustments where required.
- Carry out regular dimensional and visual quality checks on finished components.
- Use measuring equipment such as verniers, micrometers and gauges where required.
- Identify and report any quality issues, machine faults, tooling problems or material defects.
- Ensure all completed work meets the required quality and production standards.
- Maintain a clean, tidy and safe working area.
- Follow all company health and safety procedures, including the correct use of PPE.
- Complete production and quality records accurately.
- Carry out routine machine checks and report any maintenance requirements.
- Support the team in achieving production targets and meeting customer requirements.
- Work effectively during the nightshift and maintain good communication with supervisors and other team members.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties required to support the manufacturing operation.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience operating a lathe or similar machine in a manufacturing or engineering environment is desirable.
- Experience with CNC lathes would be advantageous, where applicable to the role.
- Ability to read and understand basic engineering drawings and work instructions.
- Good understanding of measurements and tolerances.
- Experience using measuring equipment such as verniers and micrometers is desirable.
- Good attention to detail and a commitment to producing quality work.
- Ability to identify defects and report problems promptly.
- Good organisational skills and a methodical approach to work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual and willing to work nightshift hours.
- Positive attitude towards health and safety and maintaining a clean working environment.
- Willingness to learn new processes and develop machining skills.
Qualifications
- No specific formal qualification is essential where suitable practical experience can be demonstrated.
- An engineering or manufacturing qualification would be advantageous.
- Relevant experience in machining, manufacturing or engineering will be considered.
Working Requirements
- Permanent, full-time nightshift position.
- Ability to work consistently during nightshift hours.
- Comfortable working in a busy manufacturing environment.
- Physically capable of carrying out the duties associated with machine operation, including handling materials and components.
