Job summary

A leading design and fabrication service provider in Nelson is seeking an experienced Laser/Fold Technician. You will handle process requests, create nests, and troubleshoot programs, along with managing stock databases. The ideal candidate has expertise in SigmaNEST and knowledge of sheet metal processes. This position offers £17.00 per hour with potential for a higher rate, along with various employee benefits including holiday, pension, and overtime opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Experience with SigmaNEST or equivalent programming software is highly desirable.
  • Solid knowledge of manufacturing processes and ability to interpret engineering drawings is essential.
  • Basic CAD knowledge is desired and proficiency in Solidworks is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Process laser/fold requests using DXF files to generate work orders.
  • Create nests for Mitsubishi fibre laser cutter.
  • Troubleshoot programs with laser operator and manage stock/offcut database.

About The Company

They provide an all‑round design, laser, fold and fabrication service to a broad and expanding customer base.

About The Role
  • Process Laser/Fold requests from Sales & CAD departments using DXF import techniques to generate work order part files for cutting.
  • Create nests for Mitsubishi 4kw fibre laser cutter.
  • Identify potential problem parts before they get to the machine, applying relevant tagging/lead‑in/cut path solutions and/or liaising with CAD department.
  • Communicate with laser operator to troubleshoot in the event of program errors, rejected parts, stock issues etc.
  • Manage and maintain stock/offcut database, ensuring maximum utilisation/minimum waste.
  • Sheet purchasing in the event of stock shortfall/replenishment (communicating with suppliers, submitting RFQs, raising purchase orders).
  • Program work orders in a logical manner – collaborating with department leads to ensure production schedules are maintained.
Skills & Experience
  • Experience with SigmaNEST programming software highly desirable (or equivalent industry standard programming software – Lantek, Radan).
  • Strong knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing processes and the ability to read, interpret and work from technical engineering drawings.
  • Basic CAD/geometry modification knowledge desired but not essential. “Solidworks” is desirable.
  • Good numeracy and computer skills.
  • Good communication skills both verbal and visual.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • The ability to multi‑task.
Benefits
  • £17.00 per hour to start. Candidates with Solidworks & Excel skills can expect a higher rate.
  • 38 Hours per week.
  • Mon – Thurs 08:00 – 16:30; Fri 08:00 – 14:00. Possible option of a 4‑day week once “in the swing”.
