Job summary

MTL Advanced, a Yorkshire-based engineering and manufacturing company, is seeking a Laser Operator to work at their Rotherham facility. The role involves hoist/crane loading, setting up laser cutting, material checks and finishing tasks in a production environment.

Your responsibilities include loading/unloading, ensuring correct materials, following drawings, and ensuring parts are routed to the next department with accuracy and care. A focus on quality and safety is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience as laser operator or machining operative preferred.
• Able to read and interpret engineer drawings.
• Crane/slinging experience advantageous.
• Flexible to adapt to changing production demands.
• Strong focus on quality and safety.

Responsibilities

• Operate hoist/crane to load sheet steel onto laser bed.
• Set up the laser machine for cutting.
• Unload parts and store scrap material.
• Ensure laser machines have correct materials and are properly loaded.
• Check material size, thickness and grade before cutting.
• Cut and shape materials per drawings; inspect finished parts.
• Label and handle parts and sheets correctly; support downstream movement.

VACANCY: Laser Operator

LOCATION: Rotherham, S60 (Close to Meadowhall, Sheffield)

SHIFTS: Saturday and Sunday 6am – 6pm – plus one 8 hour shift midweek.

PAY: £18.65 – £22.44 Per Hour.

ABOUT US:

MTL Advanced is a Yorkshire-based, engineering and manufacturing company operating from a 390,000 sq. ft. facility in Rotherham.

We have invested in an extensive range of technology and equipment and provide services to a range of OEM’s from leading industries including defence, security, construction, quarrying, recycling and rail.

Our inhouse capabilities include, large format Laser Cutting and Press Braking, CNC Precision Machining, Fabrication & Welding, Shot Blasting, Painting and final Assembly.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

• Operate hoist / crane to load sheet steel onto laser bed
• Setting the machine up for cutting
• Unloading parts and unused sheet steel and storing
• Ensure Laser Machines are supplied with the correct materials
• Ensure material is checked for size, thickness and grade prior to cutting
• Cut and shape the correct materials according to engineer drawings
• Inspect finished components; Marking up of cut parts, cleaning and fettling products
• Ensure parts and sheets are handled and labelled correctly
• Ensure the parts are routed correctly to the next department / team

ABOUT YOU:

• Knowledge working within a machining operative / machine minding capacity or general laser production
• Basic math skills for measurements and calculations
• Slinging and lifting crane experience
• A flexible approach to be able to adapt to changing and challenging requirements
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels
• Ability to remain focused on Quality and consistently reiterate its importance to others
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to generate innovative concepts and ideas
