ABP UK in Bridge of Allan, Scotland, is hiring a Lairage Operative to join our Lairage team. You will book in cattle and sheep, support their safe handling, and help maintain high welfare standards in a fast-paced environment.

The role is full-time, on-site with early morning shifts, Monday to Friday, around 48 hours per week. Previous animal handling experience is beneficial, and teamwork, reliability, and attention to detail are essential.

Aufgaben

• Load and unload cattle and sheep from trucks into the lairage.
• Look after the cattle and sheep while they are in the lairage.
• Move cattle from lairage pens into the race and check passports.
• Clean lairage pens daily.
• Scan cattle and sheep to the computer to book them in and check passports.
• Work as part of the team and communicate across the department.
• Follow training and safe working procedures.
• Maintain welfare standards and comply with safety policies.
• Wear and maintain PPE and report any defects.
• Be flexible with workloads to meet throughput targets.
• Report problems with equipment or machinery to management.
• Adhere to Health and Food Safety policies.
• Perform any other duties as required.

Our experienced Lairage team are currently seeking a keen, motivated and enthusiastic individual to come and join us as a Lairage Operative, This is an excellent opportunity to develop and learn new skills within a great working environment. In this varied, hands‑on role, you will use a computer to book in cattle and sheep and support their safe handling and movement, whilst always maintaining high welfare standards

Working Hours are Monday to Friday working 6am until finish. Working around 48 hours per week.

Key roles:

• Load and unload cattle and sheep off trucks into the Lairage
• To look after the cattle and sheep while they are in the lairage
• Move cattle from the lairage pens into the race, check ear tags etc
• Clean lairage pens out on a daily basis
• Scan in cattle and sheep to the computer to book them in and check passports
• To work as part of the team and ensure excellent communication across the department
• To ensure all tasks performed are as per training given and following safe working procedures
• To work to agreed training plan, bringing any skill shortfalls/difficulties to the attention of the Lairage Supervisor
• Maintaining the welfare of animals at all times, and upholding high welfare standards and comply with the certificate of competence and any other safe working procedure
• Ensure understanding of expected standards and targets before commencing any task..
• To ensure that where PPE is provided for any of the above tasks, that it is correctly worn/used, maintained and any defects reported to the relevant key colleagues.
• To have a flexible approach to workloads/hours to ensure agreed throughput and yield targets are met.
• To report any problems regarding equipment/machinery to management.
• To adhere to current legislation and Company hygiene policies with regards to safe food production and hygiene at all times
• To carry out all assigned tasks in accordance with company policies and procedures, particularly with regard to Health and Safety and Food Safety at all times
• Any other duties as required

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a similar type of role and be suited to working in a fast paced environment. Previous animal handling or farm work experience would be beneficial.
