Job summary

Selwood in Bedford is hiring a Labourer/Yardsperson to support busy branch operations. You will help load/unload lorries, keep the yard tidy, and assist with depot or on-site tasks while ensuring safety and accurate paperwork.

The role requires a full clean UK driving licence, the ability to work outdoors in a fast-paced setting, and a willingness to train for a forklift licence if not already held. Benefits include overtime, pension, and staff development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Full clean UK driving licence (no more than 6 points).
• Over 21 years of age (insurance purpose).
• Able to lift heavy objects and work outdoors in a fast-paced env.
• Current Counterbalance Forklift truck licence is preferred; training can be provided.

Responsibilities

• Keep the yard and workshops clean, tidy and organised at all times.
• Assist with loading and unloading of vehicles, checking paperwork and items.
• Assist fitting staff with tasks, lifting and moving in depot or on-site.
• Clean hire equipment prior to entry to workshop using cleaning equipment.
• Promote the Company while on-site and be polite with staff and customers.
• Communicate ETA's and missing or damaged items to supervisor and customers.
• Comply with PPE requirements for Selwood or site regulations.

About The Role

To support the operations of our busy Bedford branch, Selwood are inviting applications for the position of Labourer / Yardsperson to join our friendly team based our at our branch site in Bedford.

This role will provide vital support to the branch operations andwill be yard based assisting with various duties in conjunction with the loading and unloading of lorries to ensure timely delivery of our pumps and associated equipment in time to meet our customers expectations.

Task and Responsibilities within the yard:

• To keep the yard and workshops clean, tidy and organised at all times.
• To assist with loading and unloading of vehicles, checking against paperwork, missing, damages and fuel charges when needed.
• To assist fitting staff when required, with tasks as instructed, i.e. lifting, moving, in depot or on-site.
• To clean hire equipment prior to entry to workshop, using pressure/steam-cleaning equipment.
• To be polite and co-operative with staff/customers, and, when on-site, be aware of promoting the Company.
• To be able to communicate accurately to your supervisor, work colleagues and customers re job specifications when required e.g. ETA’s and missing and damaged items, obtaining signatures and names when delivering/collecting.
• To comply with all PPE requirements for Selwood or site regulations.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Full Clean UK driving licence (no more than 6 points).
• Over 21 years of age (for insurance purposes).
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
• Ability to act proactively whilst maintaining a methodical, organised, attention to detail approach.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a confident and positive approach while engaging with internal and external stakeholders, including customers.
• Working knowledge of tablet devices, with the ability to check and input information.
• Able to lift heavy objects, work outdoors, and perform tasks that require significant physical effort.
• Current Counterbalance Forklift truck licence is preferred, although not essential as training can be provided.
