Job summary

Historic Environment Scotland is seeking a Labourer/Driver based at Melrose Abbey Depot to join a small regional team. You will provide labouring support, assist with maintenance inspections and surveys, and help move plant, equipment and materials between sites across the Borders.

This permanent role offers a Civil Service pension, 25 days leave plus holidays, and flexible hours during summer. A full UK driving licence is essential, and you may be required to work at other monuments within the

Qualifications

• Familiarity with traditional building methods and lime mortars.
• Knowledge of health & safety practices including COSHH.
• Experience of working on construction sites.
• Experience of general labouring tasks.
• Experience with maintenance of small plant and equipment.
• Full UK driving licence or eligible to convert within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Provide labouring support to the team for conservation duties.
• Carry out routine maintenance and inspections at various sites.
• Maintain small plant and equipment.
• Assist with surveys and works inspections.
• Ensure health and safety of the public and staff.
• Keep work sites clean and ensure safe access/egress.
• Transport staff, plant, equipment and materials between depots.
