Role Overview:
We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join our team for a research project investigating the kinetics of gas phase reactions. This is a highly interdisciplinary role combining experimental chemistry, coding, hands-on laboratory equipment design , build and testing, and a good deal of creative problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities:
•Assist in designing, assembling, and maintaining experimental setups for gas phase reaction studies.
•Carrying out testing
•Work with gas lines, fittings, valves, and tubing, modifying and troubleshooting fluid handling systems.
•Perform soldering and basic electronics assembly for custom sensors and data acquisition setups.
•Program and maintain control systems.
•Support data collection and basic analysis, including coding custom scripts in Python.
•Maintain and operate gas chromatographs.
•Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to develop scalable and sustainable processes.
•Ensure accurate documentation of experimental procedures, setup configurations, and maintenance logs.
•Collaborate closely with researchers and engineers to iterate on experimental designs and resolve technical issues.
Required Experience:
•Technical degree or equivalent hands-on experience in chemistry, chemical engineering, electronics, physics, or a related field.
•Proficiency in Python programming, especially for hardware interfacing and data acquisition.
•Experience working with Raspberry Pi, Arduino, microcontrollers, or related control devices.
•Familiarity with LabVIEW for instrument control and automation.
•Experience working with mechanical systems: pipes, valves, pressure fittings, etc.
•Practical soldering skills and a solid foundation in basic electronics.
•Good problem-solving skills and a "tinkerer" mindset.
Preferred Experience:
•Operating or maintaining gas chromatographs.
•Some familiarity with physical chemistry principles and wet chemistry laboratories.
•Commercial experience is a bonus.
